The ancient world viewed the human being as an integrated whole, as a functioning microcosm, little world, of the greater macrocosmic universe. The study of the heavens led to the conclusion that man and woman reflect the heavens by analogy. Astrology gave rise to astronomy and psychology. Humans studied the data of the heavens, yet considered this applicable to the individual mind of the human being. The ancients believed that our internal organs corresponded to the planets and signs of the zodiac, a tenet which remains in modern astrology even today. Healers can thus diagnose illnesses on an astrological basis and prescribe herbs associated with the corrective planetary activity to heal their patients. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine said that a doctor who didn't use astrology to aid in diagnosis and choice of remedy was more fool than physician. Understood correctly, Astrology grants a depth of awareness concerning self and others, the society and universe we live in, and celestial influences that can lead to all sorts of beneficial activities for the enrichment of life.
